West LA Personal Branding Photography
My personal branding session with Gayle was a dream. She’s a proud and active mama, an entrepreneur and just an all around lovely human. She’s a bright light and it was beyond fun to follow her with a camera as we romped around her gorgeous West LA home.
One of the things I so love about photography is the opportunity it provides to connect with other creative females. During personal branding photography sessions, I get to listen to my client's stories and hear about their journeys. They share what excites them and where they hope to be in the future. It’s a beautiful process.
The most impactful images capture the human spirit, in all it’s colors and hues. So it’s important that there’s a real connection between the two people on either sides of the camera. With personal brand photography (and all other types as well), it is essential that the person whom I’m photographing trusts me. I see it as my responsibility to create a safe space for them to drop their guard and open their heart. When you spend time with a girlfriend you’ve known for years, there’s no awkwardness, you’ve built a friendship and a trust, and it’s easy to be relaxed and yourself in their company. But in the context of a personal branding photography session, you’re trying to create that same level in connection with someone you’ve often just met. Sometimes the way I create that connection is by being willing for my clients to see my vulnerabilities (sometimes I’m awkward too or a big goofball, or clumsy, or whatever!). When they see I’m just a person too, they relax. And then they fall into that beautiful space of authentic being. That’s when the magic happens.
